66 years ago today, Allied forces led by the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA landed in Normandy, France to begin the liberation of Europe. Operation Overlord had begun. 73,000 Americans landed in France along with 80,000 plus allied troops. 2,499 Americans died on this day , 66 years ago.
