Preamble to the Constitution

Our founding fathers were wise men. In the Preamble they delineated things government is SUPPOSED to do and things that are not mandatory. Here it is directly quoted:


WE THE PEOPLE of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Now, having written what the Preamble says, let's look at what government is SUPPOSED to do.

1. Establish Justice. Government is to form a judicial system.

2. Insure domestic Tranquility.

3. PROVIDE for the common defense. Government is SUPPOSED to defend our country. Doesn't this mean controlling our borders? Seems to me government has failed miserably judging from the fact that we have something on the order of 20-30 MILLION illegal immigrants in this country, mostly from Mexico.

4. PROMOTE the general Welfare. Please notice it says promote, not provide. I think Webster states there is a difference between promote and provide.

5. Secure the Blessings of Liberty. Take care of the country.

Isn't it time for government to start PROVIDING for the common defense and stop PROVIDING the general Welfare to generations of Americans who list welfare as their occupation?
